He may have been speaking towards being armed for global conflict, but President Eisenhower’s words from yesteryear ring just as true for today’s private gun owning citizenry.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower, in Normandy with troops and a mighty 155mm cannon, as it appeared in ‘LIFE” magazine a while back.
