Book giveaway: Win Massad Ayoob’s “Concealed Carry”

I’ve always enjoyed Massad Ayoob’s writing, and the manuscript for his soon-to-be-released book (Combat Shooting with Massad Ayoob) does not disappoint. From the chapter on the importance of competition as training:

“Once solely the province of the sixgun, PPC is now offered by NRA for autopistol shooters as well. Long defined by ridiculously heavy “PPC guns” firing light wadcutter midrange .38 Specials with the recoil of a mouse burp, the game got a bad rap for practicality in terms of hardware. Fortunately, that has changed.”

Combat Shooting with Massad Ayoob is scheduled for a November 15 release. In it, he shares valuable insight from years of experience:

“Most private citizens who carry guns or keep them at home for self-defense don’t get to debrief many police officers or other citizens who’ve been in gunfights. Most of them don’t get to talk with homicide detectives who investigate shootings in detail, or surgeons who treat gunshot wounds, or medical examiners who perform the autopsies when those shootings prove fatal. Nor do they generally get to have long, detailed discussions with the engineers who design and test today’s ammunition, using ballistic gelatin and various barriers in the course of their extensive research.
“My work does allow me to speak in detail with all those people. Researching gunfight results, going over the detailed reports of fatal shootings and discussing them with the people who put them together, and picking the brains of industry professionals have been part of my job for decades. Nineteen years as chair of the firearms committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and the last several years on the advisory board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, have given me an uncommon opportunity to access lots of people in lots of law enforcement agencies large and small, to get the inside story on how assorted guns and ammunition have actually worked in real-world gunfights.”

Between his entertaining writing style and the volumes of knowledge Massad has to share, this book definitely makes the “must read” list.

I read his stuff on guns and shooting and I learn stuff, but I want to know when he is going to write something useful about growing a mustache? Come on man inquiring minds want to know?

MR. Massad Ayoob’s OWN BACKGROUND IN LAW ENFORCEMENT IS LIMITED AND THAT IS NOT THE AREA WHERE HE HAS REAL STRENGTH.

HOWEVER, IS WRITING SKILLS AND HIS ABILITY TO PORTRAY THE VIEWS AND SKILLS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, IS SECOND TO NONE!

HIS REAL SKILL IS ACTING AS AN ADVOCATE FOR THE MEN AND WOMAN OF THE “THIN BLUE LINE”.

Massad is a fun guy and a great Instructor! I’ve been to a couple of his Firearms Training Classes at Dunbarton. He knows the legal and the technical side of the firearms world. The sad part is he scaled back his Firearms training programs over the last few years. I often wondered if a certain weapons manufacturer in New Hampshire had anything to do with this decision.
