Muskets, Powder and Patriots
Rotating the trigger guard a full-turn opened the breech of the Ferguson rifle. The ball, followed by the powder, was inserted into the opening atop the breech. The rotating breech plug provided an excellent gas seal and also sheared the excess powder. Credit: West Point Museum.
