Smith & Wesson Model 629

Picture 11 of 11

Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center got its hands on the Model 629 and boy does it show. The .44 Magnum is tricked out in a hunting package, outfitted with Picatinny optics and equipment rails. The revolver holds 6 rounds, has an 8.375-inch barrel and comes equipped with custom wood grips. The frame and un-fluted cylinder are both made of stainless steel. The MSRP is $1,399.

When it comes to dependability and versatility in handguns it’s hard to beat revolvers. Not to mention, there is just something eye catching about the classic lines of wheelguns. This year’s new market offerings in the way of revolvers have plenty to offer. Whether you’re shopping for a revolver for self defense, competition or hunting one of the 11 following guns has you covered.

  1. Orwell was right

I heard the initial S&W model 686 was an 8 round capacity. Did I “mis-hear”?
Also, will Colt possibly go this route in the future? I miss their beautifully blued revolvers.

Hey Orwell, I never caught wind the Performance Center M686 was suppose to come out as an eight-round model. Are you sure what you heard wasn’t about 686 and not 327, 627 or M&P R8? Those are all eight-round .357s. As far as Colt is concerned, I have no idea what their future holds concerning revolvers. But I know you are like many, wishing the company would resurrect their double-action line.
