According to our resident ammo expert, the answer is nothing. The round was originally developed by Remington (and Smith &amp; Wesson, but S&amp;W has never been a producer of ammo, so the name goes to Remington), so it is properly .44 Remington Magnum, but colloquially .44 Rem. Mag., .44 Magnum, or .44 Mag.
